ABSTRACT
THE BLENDING OF ETHANOL IN GASOLINE
The ethanol process is broken down in discrete steps that demystify what is behind the plant walls. Discussion points after the slides will revolve around sustainability in the form of different uses for by-products as well as 'add-on' technologies to improve overall plant efficiency.
BIOGRAPHY
André Boucher joined Suncor in June 2005 to manage and prepare for the opening of the company’s ethanol plant, which was then under construction in St. Clair Township, near Sarnia. The plant began production in July 2006, and is able to generate 200 million litres of ethanol per year from 20 million bushels of corn.
As General Manager of the plant, André puts to good use a drive to pursue sustainability through the use of renewable feedstocks and the efficient and frugal use of energy. His philosophy is that sustainability is the only sure road to success with the environment, stakeholders and economic viability and prosperity. Suncor’s St. Clair Ethanol Plant is the perfect platform to put that philosophy into practice.
Born in Trois Rivières, Québec, André graduated from the University of New Brunswick with a degree in Chemical Engineering. After graduation, he joined Tembec, an integrated Canadian forest products company. André gained expertise in industrial processes in increasingly senior positions over a period of 23 years with Tembec.
