IEEE London Award at the annual Thames Valley Science and Engineering Fair

The winners of the IEEE London Award at the annual Thames Valley Science and Engineering Fair in April 2019 were Reza Mozaffaripour with a study entitled “Electric Cars: A Fad or the Future?” and Shayan Mahmood with a research project entitled “DeepWave; An Early Diagnostic Tool for Cardiovascular Diseases using and an Intelligent ECG System.  They are shown in the photo below – Shayan on the left, Reza on the right, with IEEE award presenter Murray MacDonald.

IEEE London Section is proud to celebrate the recognition two IEEE WIE Awards:

The Women in Engineering affinity group of the IEEE London Section has been recognized with the WIE Affinity Group of the Year Award for 2018! Honourable mentions went to the WIE Toronto AG and the WIE Honduras AG.

In addition, Elena Uchiteleva, past (and founding) chair of WIE London section has been selected for the Inspiring Student Member of the Year Award!

Thames Valley Science and Engineering Fair

Our IEEE section once again sponsored 2 awards for Engineering projects at the Thames Valley Science and Engineering Fair at Althouse College, Western on April 7 and 8.  Here is a photo of IEEE member Khaled Alhazmi, Western, who presented the awards to Emma Ross, H.Beal Secondary, and  Aditi Basdeo, A.B. Lucas Secondary, for their project “Panda – Efficiently monitoring and reducing energy use on HVAC” and Julia Guerten, Kensal Park F.I. for her project “Solar Tracking Panel”  Congratulations to the winners!

Life Member Tour of CCPV

The Life Member Affinity group organized a tour of the Canadian Centre for Product Validation (CCPV) on June 13, 2017. The event was open to all members, but we still had a very small turn out. John Makaran, SM, Director of CCPV provided an interesting tour and fielded the numerous questions. The CCPV facility is a state of the art electrical, environmental, and performance test facility built by Fanshawe College with FedDev funding that opened in 2016.

The PEO Western Regional Office and the IEEE London Women in Engineering, Computer Society, Young Professionals, and Student Branch hosted a workshop by Pauline Lebel, the PEO Licensing Manager, on March 21, 2017 at Western University.

London Wins the IEEE Canada Exemplary Small Section Award

At the IEEE Canada (Region 7) Spring Board Meeting on April 29 in Windsor, London section was presented with the 2017 IEEE Canada Exemplary Small Section award by President Witold Kinsner. The plaque was accepted by London section members in attendance – President-Elect Maike Luiken, IEEE Canada Adminisrator Kash Hussain, WIE Chair Elena Uchiteleva, and Central Area Chair Murray MacDonald

London had previously won this award in 2011.

Announcement of 2017 ICF WIE Prize

London section member Elena Uchiteleva was presented with the IEEE Canada Foundation’s Women in Engineering (WIE) Prize at the IEEE Canada Spring Board Meeting in Windsor on April 28. This prize is sponsored by the Judy Clift Fund which was established to honour a gracious individual who believed strongly in gender equality.

Elena was key to the growth of the London Section’s WIE group and has been very active. In recognition for this, she was nominated as the WIE Chair for Canada and most recently, the Chair of the Member Services for Canada.

Congratulations Elena!

(On June 29th, at the WIE “Zumba and Ice Cream” event, Elena was re-presented with the framed certificate.)
