IEEE London Section 2016 Annual General Meeting
The London section Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held on Thursday November 17 at the Doubletree by Hilton on Dundas St.
Chair Dr. Abdallah Shami welcomed all and provided a short report on the section activities for 2016 and plans for 2017. Our Treasurer, Allan VanDamme, presented the financial picture for this year and a budget for next. The election of the 2017 executive was held with the slate of 2016 officers returning for 2017 acclaimed:
Chair – Abdallah Shami,
Vice Chair – Ahmed Hussein,
Treasurer – Allan VanDamme, and
Secretary – Elizabeth Tomaszewski
After an enjoyable buffet dinner, Murray MacDonald presented award certificates to members nominated for recognition:
Outstanding Volunteer – Ana Luisa Trejos, for inspiring the London IEEE Section’s Women in Engineering Affinity Group
Outstanding Young Professional – Mohamed AbuShark, for his role as Chair of Young Professionals (YP) Affinity Group and continuing assistance in organizing YP events
Outstanding Young Professional – Abdallah Moubayed, for his roles as Young Professionals (YP) affinity group Secretary and Vice Chair, as Secretary of Computer Society chapter, and continuing assistance in organizing YP events
Outstanding Young Professional – Tame Mohamed, for his role as Young Professionals (YP) Treasurer, organizing YP events and conference and summit road trips, and assisting with Women in Engineering events
Then our keynote speaker, John Bebawy, Business Development Director at TELUS, provided an enlightening presentation on “the Connect World: Finding Competetive Edge with IOT”. This was followed by a lengthy Q&A session.
Adballah then adjourned the meeting though many stayed to network after.
